I Heart Faces - Beautiful B&W

This week's contest subject over at I Heart Faces is Beautiful B&W.
My entry is very personal to me.
On the 1st of February 2012 my families life was turned upside down by  a disease that touches all too many lives.
My Husband had his Cancer diagnosis confirmed.
After spending a month in hospital and enduring two complicated and huge operations my husband is finally home,
and we hope well on his way to winning his fight with Cancer.

We decided that we should make some kind of record of this fight for our children as it is now a part of who we are and our family history.
As I really rather enjoy photography we decided I would take a photo each month to keep a record of his fight and the effects it has on his body and mind.
This is the first photo taken just after he finally returned home after what has been and will continue to be a grewling and difficult fight.

After not picking up a camera for almost two months since this journey began it felt amazing to be photographing such an inspirational and courageous man.

Thank you for looking x

  13. this is all to familiar for me. My husband had two major surgeries and two minor ones from a cancer diagnosis. He was given a three week prognosis. I am happy to report that 2 years later he is cancer free. I did not think to photograph the journey. Since then, I have been fortunate to photograph an amazing group of inspirational women who are all Breast Cancer Survivors. Your photograph is amazing. I will keep you in my positive thoughts. Carpe Diem.

  15. We just returned from our "big surgery" a few weeks ago. And defiantly delayed treatment a week to take a vacation and LIVE for seven days.

My photos didn't turn out nearly as amazing as your incredible headshot... but I am there clicking behind the lens to try to record what our life is like now. It puts things into perspective, doesn't it?

Thank you for this. I know you understand. Praying for your family!

  19. I'm a survivor of hodgkin's lymphoma. After two years of chemo, a stemcell transplant and a clinical trial. I got the all clear. Cancer can suck the life right out of you, if you let it. Stay strong! And yes, your lives have changed forever. You will look at things differently now; appreciate things more, have more compassion for those around you. Keep fighting the good fight!

  24. This is so very special. My photo is of my 96 1/2 year old Grandma and my granddaughter. My Grandma is in palliative care at the moment and not expected to be around long (but we're not God, so who knows). It's ok, though, because she wants to be with my Grandpa and the rest of her loved ones. I hope and pray your husband lives as long and full a life as my Grandma has. Prayers for you.

  25. I love the verse that Genny shared above. I would add Isaiah 26:3-4 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength." Those verses got me through some very difficult days when my own husband was fighting cancer. I feel so much for you as you start this journey. I wonder if you have faith in God to help you through it. I honestly don't think I could have gotten through without it. Praying for strength and courage for you both!

Your photo is beautiful,by the way. I think it's great that you are documenting this as part of your history.

My diagnosis was grim but I am here today. Love and cherish those who love you. Stay strong, determined and you will win! My heart goes out to your entire family b/c it affects the entire family.
