I was experimenting and.....

So my new gear came this week and so I have been experimenting with it.
I have been having some fun playing around with depth of field and exposures and a few other bits and pieces.

I made a little friend in the garden who helped me out with my experimenting with my macro filters.

Would you like to meet her?

Here she is....

Her name is Lady-Bee, you'll find out why in a little bit!
Now she enjoyed walking over stones in the garden...

Which was great for testing out the range of focus.
The she got stuck...

So I had to give her a hand..... she and I decided it best to move to a Tulip instead!

So here she is having a climb about.

She did a little dance too...

All of this was fabulous for trying out these lenses..... but then she did something amazing.... something which would truly allow me to test out the detail I could captures using my 10x filter....

She fell off into the pollen!!

As you can see from this image she got a little covered.

And then for her modelling grand finale she took to the spotlight!

Wasn't she just fabulous!

I Heart Faces - Best Face of March

This week at I Heart Faces the subject is Best Face of March, and is open to public vote!

My choice for this week is what I like to call a happy accident.
My batteries for my flash had run out and so I went and changed them,
When I looked up after changing them the Baby I was shooting was playing with his Mummy!
It was such a sweet moment and so I grabbed my camera and snapped it before the moment had time to pass.

Here is what I caught:

When I got home and started editing the session I came across this picture which I had forgotten about and LOVED it!

Such a pure moment, I hope you like it as much as I do!!

Double Chocolate, Coconut and Vanilla Cheescakes

Our Fabulous PTA have arranged a special meal at the Blacksmith Arms in Everton, to celebrate Mothers Day.
For this we decided as the pub doesn't offer dessert we would instead, which The Blacksmith Arms where kind enough to agree too.

I tried making cupcakes in my lovely new oven....
Big ones did well but I only had ten cake cases.....
So I decided to make some smaller ones.....
They did not do so well : (

So I gave up on cupcakes and decided to make cheesecakes instead!
These are much easier and always come out the way you want them.

Here is what I did:

Double Chocolate, Coconut and Vanilla Cheesecakes

Makes 15

Ingredients
  •  500g Ricotta
  • 600g White Chocolate
  • A Packet of Maryland Chocolate Chip and Coconut Cookies
  • 150g Salted Butter
  • Vanilla Extract
  • 15 Chocolate Cake Cases
  • Chocolate Shavings to Decorate
  • Chocolate Swirls to Decorate
How to make them

  1. Begin by setting out your cases in a tray, take care as they are very breakable.
  2. Break up the cookies in a food processor until they are breadcrumb sized.
  3. Melt you butter.
  4. Mix the cookies and the butter together thoroughly.
  5. Place the mixture into the bottom of the cake cases, compress gently.
  6. Place the cases into the fridge to set the base.
  7. Melt your chocolate in a bowl over a pan of boiling water until completely melted.
  8. Remove the melted chocolate from the heat and add a generous amount of vanilla extract to the chocolate and stir well.
  9. Mix into the chocolate mixture the ricotta (be careful to remove any liquid from the cheese as it will separate the finished mixture), mix well, I use my Kenwood Chef for this.
  10. Leave the mixture to rest for at least five minutes.
  11. Then mix it again for 2 minutes and then place into a icing bag with a large nozzle.
  12. Squeeze generously into the cake cases
  13. Sprinkle the Chocolate shavings over and decorate with the chocolate swirls.
  14. Place int he fridge to set for at least 1 hour.
  15. ENJOY!
I hope you like my recipe and give it a try yourself, they are scrummy!!

    It's been a while....

It's crazy how fast time can go by when you are busy!
The last few weeks have seen alot of fun for The West's and a little sickness (again) too.
It has also seen a few milestones for some of the West family such as:
    • Liliana - has potty trained fully and had several outings without any accidents!! - Nappy FREE!!!
    • Oliver - is now up and about, he can now walk when just holding on for confidence!
    • David - has taken a week's holiday and so far NOT WORKED!!!! (He is a workaholic)
    • Becky - with the help of some wonderful ladies has helped raise £1332.40 for the school playground fund!!!
    • Larakia - has been consistently been getting all her spellings right!!
    • Samuel - has made some serious improvement in his maths, which he was doing really well in anyway!
    • Harrison - had a fabulous report from his teacher in his late parent-teacher conference.
    • Micah - has been in a good mood EVERYDAY!!!!
So all in all it has been a good few weeks, we are enjoying taking some stop time and actually being able to see each other and enjoy each other.
